Bill Etzkorn

Bill is a Color Sergeant and co-founder of the Gettysburg Guard. Spending a lifetime as a history nerd, he turned a middle school project to paint the historic Truex Blacksmith Shop into a full blown Civil War obsession. That building was a muster location for the men of Monmouth County (NJ) who then traveled to Trenton to enter Federal service. For the last 30 years Bill has worked as a Surveyor for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 825, having previously served as a volunteer firefighter, while currently working on a degree in American Military History. On the living history side, Bill portrays a Captain assigned to the Bureau of Military Information and is known to fall in with the rank and file of several Federal infantry units. Bill brings a unique perspective to the ROTC Podcast as he leans on his lifetime Surveyor experience to give an intimate insight on battlefield terrain, while also utilizing his leadership skills as a volunteer firefighter.
